Greetings Professor Slentz,

My name is Mohammed, but I prefer going by Fahim (my last name) because I found it to be a widespread name for most of the time I am in a group setting. I currently am a student at The City College of New York and a part-time Pharmacy Tech in training at Duane Reade. I am undeclared because I am still exploring what interests me. However, I have been intrigued by the healthcare field ever since I was a young boy; I felt it was my duty to help others out. It didn’t matter to me in which way. The fondness of helping another out is one of the top feelings a person can feel. As time passed, I developed a passion for pharmacists. I fell in love with their work ethic. The way they are always assisting and aid to those who need it. They provide many medications for the ones who need them. Over time, as my interest in their commitment has increased, I want to pursue a field to help others significantly. The propensity to assist others has its benefits.

Growing up in Harlem, I have witnessed many gruesome situations. I have seen people getting shot, assaulted, and countless other traumatic events. But one thing I have noticed is those who would be rushing to the victims in need. There could be a shootout and people getting shot, and in a matter of minutes, there will be these brave health workers putting their lives at risk. Especially at this time, doctors put our lives before theirs in this pandemic. Since then, I have gained more respect for doctors/healthcare workers. When it is a widely contagious virus, we often forget they are not immune to the disease. We complain about masks but do not realize they have 5x more layers on their faces than us. We can’t fail to neglect that these workers are strangers to us who are willing to do anything to give us a healthier life.

Over time, as my interest in their commitment has increased, I want to pursue a field where I can help others out in a significant way. The propensity to assist others has its benefits. Comprehensively it makes this world a better place. It creates a better society. And unfortunately, we do not have enough help from each other. There is a lot of unnecessary hatred in this world. Even providing some support to others can cause a significant change. I aspire to be a person who drives a lot of help to one person and an entire community. Seeing what goes on in the projects gives me that vocation to restore my community.

Writing was always challenging for me to find the right words and put in all together. I hope to see my writing sound clear and easier to understand. I also want to improve my vocabulary tremendously. I feel like having and knowing the right words is so important in different scenarios. It makes the person you are writing or speaking understand more clearly. I hope to have excellent grades this semester and thrive in every way possible, which I will try to overcome with challenges and barriers I know may come my way!

Sincerely,

Mohammed Fahim
